Smooth Icing Every Time
Getting neat icing from small pre-filled tubes is mostly about pressure and patience.
Before you start, gently knead the tube between your fingers for a few seconds. This helps the icing flow more evenly and avoids sudden blobs or breaks in your lines.
When piping, use light, steady pressure and work in short bursts rather than one long squeeze. This gives you more control, especially for lettering or outlines. Try to let the icing fall onto the surface instead of dragging the tip along — it keeps lines smoother and corners cleaner.
If the icing feels firm, resting the tube in warm (not hot) water for a minute can help loosen it slightly. Dry it off, take your time, and you’ll find the icing does exactly what you want it to.
